# Functional Ear Trainer vs WhichPitch

The clearest difference is rating: Functional Ear Trainer at 4.9 against WhichPitch's 3.1. Functional Ear Trainer also leads on ratings volume (3.7K vs 7). WhichPitch's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 7 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Functional Ear Trainer sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and WhichPitch sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Functional Ear Trainer holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 3.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Functional Ear Trainer has 3.7K ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 96% of Functional Ear Trainer's written reviews are positive against 100% of WhichPitch's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Functional Ear Trainer ships an update every 7 months, WhichPitch every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
