# Subsurface vs Z dive log

The clearest difference is rating: Z dive log at 5.0 against Subsurface's 4.5. Subsurface's advantage is ratings volume (48 vs 1) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 4 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Z dive log holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Subsurface has 48 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 63% of Subsurface's written reviews are positive against 58% of Z dive log's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Subsurface ships an update every 2 months, Z dive log every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
