# Octopus Energy vs Candy Reader

The clearest difference is monetization model: Candy Reader at free against Octopus Energy's free with in-app purchases. Candy Reader also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and update cadence (every 3 days vs weekly). Octopus Energy's advantage is ratings volume (463 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Candy Reader holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Octopus Energy has 463 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Octopus Energy ships an update weekly, Candy Reader every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 2, 2026 respectively.
