# Goethe vs A2

Goethe and A2 both sit at 5.0 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of A2's written reviews are positive against 30% of Goethe's. A2 also leads on ratings volume (6 vs 1) and iOS requirement (12.1 vs 15.0). Goethe's advantage is update cadence (every 2 months vs every 29 months). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Goethe against 5.0 for A2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: A2 has 6 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 30% of Goethe's written reviews are positive against 100% of A2's.

Goethe ships an update every 2 months, A2 every 29 months. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
