# Notepad vs Motes

The clearest difference is rating: Notepad at 4.3 against Motes's 3.0. Notepad also leads on ratings volume (64 vs 1). Motes's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (67% vs 33%). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Notepad sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per month and Motes sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $0.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Notepad holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Notepad has 64 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 33% of Notepad's written reviews are positive against 67% of Motes's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Notepad ships an update every 3 months, Motes monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and September 22, 2026 respectively.
