# SMS Alert vs ESET VPN

The clearest difference is review sentiment: ESET VPN at 45% against SMS Alert's 0%. ESET VPN also leads on ratings volume (582 vs 1) and update cadence (every 3 months vs every 14 months). SMS Alert's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.3) and monetization model (free vs subscription). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

SMS Alert holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ESET VPN has 582 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of SMS Alert's written reviews are positive against 45% of ESET VPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

SMS Alert ships an update every 14 months, ESET VPN every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 7, 2026 respectively.
