# Bonsai Focus ES vs Outside

The clearest difference is monetization model: Outside at free with in-app purchases against Bonsai Focus ES's subscription. Outside also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 10 months) and ratings volume (1.9K vs 1). Bonsai Focus ES's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 13.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Bonsai Focus ES sells 18 one-off in-app purchases and Outside sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $89.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Bonsai Focus ES holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Outside has 1.9K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Bonsai Focus ES ships an update every 10 months, Outside every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
