# Mars vs Hologram

The clearest difference is rating: Mars at 4.8 against Hologram's 2.0. Mars also leads on ratings volume (22K vs 9) and update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months). Hologram's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 10) and ads (none vs shown). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Mars sells 10 one-off in-app purchases. Hologram asks for nothing beyond the download.

Mars holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mars has 22K ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 91% of Mars's written reviews are positive against 100% of Hologram's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Mars ships an update monthly, Hologram every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
