# ™ Chess vs Chess

™ Chess and Chess both sit at 4.5 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Chess's written reviews are positive against 37% of ™ Chess's. Chess also leads on update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 4 months) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 13.0). ™ Chess's advantage is ratings volume (10K vs 11). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ™ Chess sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Chess sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for ™ Chess against 4.5 for Chess. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ™ Chess has 10K ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 37% of ™ Chess's written reviews are positive against 100% of Chess's.

™ Chess ships an update every 4 months, Chess every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
