# IELTS Speaking Assistant vs USMLEBase

The clearest difference is monetization model: USMLEBase at free with in-app purchases against IELTS Speaking Assistant's subscription. USMLEBase also leads on iOS requirement (9.0 vs 12.0). IELTS Speaking Assistant's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (348 vs 26). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. IELTS Speaking Assistant sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per year and USMLEBase sells 10 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

IELTS Speaking Assistant holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: IELTS Speaking Assistant has 348 ratings behind it against 26, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 37% of IELTS Speaking Assistant's written reviews are positive against 29% of USMLEBase's.

IELTS Speaking Assistant ships an update every 3 months, USMLEBase every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
