# IELTS Speaking Assistant vs IELTS Prep

IELTS Speaking Assistant and IELTS Prep both sit at 4.5 stars, but that hides the real split: 83% of IELTS Prep's written reviews are positive against 37% of IELTS Speaking Assistant's. IELTS Prep also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 months). IELTS Speaking Assistant's advantage is ratings volume (348 vs 34) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 17.0). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. IELTS Speaking Assistant sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per year and IELTS Prep sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $24.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for IELTS Speaking Assistant against 4.6 for IELTS Prep. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: IELTS Speaking Assistant has 348 ratings behind it against 34, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 37% of IELTS Speaking Assistant's written reviews are positive against 83% of IELTS Prep's.

IELTS Speaking Assistant ships an update every 3 months, IELTS Prep weekly. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
