# TotalAV vs Phone Security

TotalAV and Phone Security both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 64% of Phone Security's written reviews are positive against 24% of TotalAV's. Phone Security also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 6 weeks). TotalAV's advantage is monetization model (freemium vs subscription) and ads (none vs shown). On price, rating, in-app purchases and chart position there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. TotalAV sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and Phone Security sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for TotalAV against 4.6 for Phone Security. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TotalAV has 72K ratings behind it against 3.3K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 24% of TotalAV's written reviews are positive against 64% of Phone Security's.

TotalAV ships an update every 6 weeks, Phone Security every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 30, 2026.
