# HootBoard vs Fora Communities

The clearest difference is rating: Fora Communities at 4.7 against HootBoard's 3.5. Fora Communities also leads on ratings volume (1.4K vs 4) and update cadence (every 9 days vs every 2 months). HootBoard's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (50% vs 26%). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Fora Communities holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Fora Communities has 1.4K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of HootBoard's written reviews are positive against 26% of Fora Communities's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

HootBoard ships an update every 2 months, Fora Communities every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
