# TOR Browser vs Private Web Browser

TOR Browser and Private Web Browser both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 85% of Private Web Browser's written reviews are positive against 53% of TOR Browser's. TOR Browser's advantage is ratings volume (14K vs 348) and update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. TOR Browser sells 11 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Private Web Browser sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for TOR Browser against 4.5 for Private Web Browser. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TOR Browser has 14K ratings behind it against 348, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 53% of TOR Browser's written reviews are positive against 85% of Private Web Browser's.

TOR Browser ships an update weekly, Private Web Browser every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 31, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
