# ArkVPN Pro vs Lightning VPN

The clearest difference is monetization model: ArkVPN Pro at free with in-app purchases against Lightning VPN's subscription. ArkVPN Pro also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 15.0). Lightning VPN's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.3) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 4 months). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ArkVPN Pro sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $11.99 per month and Lightning VPN sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Lightning VPN holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Lightning VPN has 2.1K ratings behind it against 56, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 68% of ArkVPN Pro's written reviews are positive against 70% of Lightning VPN's.

ArkVPN Pro ships an update every 4 months, Lightning VPN every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
