# Field Engineer vs CEL

The clearest difference is rating: CEL at 4.3 against Field Engineer's 2.3. Field Engineer's advantage is review sentiment (21% vs 0%) and ratings volume (46 vs 6). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

CEL holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 2.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Field Engineer has 46 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 21% of Field Engineer's written reviews are positive against 0% of CEL's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Field Engineer ships an update every 4 months, CEL every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
