# U vs SmartESS

The clearest difference is rating: U at 4.8 against SmartESS's 2.7. SmartESS's advantage is ratings volume (127 vs 26) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16.0). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

U holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 2.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 26 and 127 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 18% of U's written reviews are positive against 20% of SmartESS's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

U ships an update every 2 months, SmartESS monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
