# Portal Timer vs MapGenie

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Portal Timer at 100% against MapGenie's 26%. Portal Timer also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (weekly vs every 69 months). MapGenie's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (115 vs 2). On price, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Portal Timer sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

MapGenie holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MapGenie has 115 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Portal Timer's written reviews are positive against 26% of MapGenie's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Portal Timer ships an update weekly, MapGenie every 69 months. Both last shipped on October 23, 2026.
