# ASUS File Transfer vs Microsoft Surface

The clearest difference is update cadence: Microsoft Surface at every 2 months against ASUS File Transfer's every 13 months. Microsoft Surface also leads on review sentiment (27% vs 0%) and ratings volume (159 vs 2). ASUS File Transfer's advantage is rating (3.5 vs 3.2) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 11.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ASUS File Transfer holds the better App Store score, 3.5 against 3.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Microsoft Surface has 159 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of ASUS File Transfer's written reviews are positive against 27% of Microsoft Surface's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

ASUS File Transfer ships an update every 13 months, Microsoft Surface every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
