# Adirondack Explorer vs Current Archaeology

The clearest difference is monetization model: Adirondack Explorer at free with in-app purchases against Current Archaeology's subscription. Adirondack Explorer also leads on ratings volume (25 vs 1) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16.6). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Adirondack Explorer sells 13 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Current Archaeology sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.49 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Adirondack Explorer against 5.0 for Current Archaeology. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Adirondack Explorer has 25 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Adirondack Explorer ships an update every 5 months, Current Archaeology every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
