# ECNL vs NorCal

The clearest difference is rating: ECNL at 4.6 against NorCal's 2.8. ECNL also leads on ratings volume (5.8K vs 12). NorCal's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and review sentiment (29% vs 10%). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ECNL sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $3.99 per month. NorCal asks for nothing beyond the download.

ECNL holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 2.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ECNL has 5.8K ratings behind it against 12, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 10% of ECNL's written reviews are positive against 29% of NorCal's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

ECNL ships an update every 4 weeks, NorCal every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 9, 2026 respectively.
