# Current Archaeology vs Numismatic News

The clearest difference is monetization model: Numismatic News at free with in-app purchases against Current Archaeology's subscription. Numismatic News also leads on ratings volume (19 vs 1) and update cadence (every 4 months vs every 8 months). Current Archaeology's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.6). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Current Archaeology sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.49 per month and Numismatic News sells 24 in-app purchases, starting at $24.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Current Archaeology holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Numismatic News has 19 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Current Archaeology ships an update every 8 months, Numismatic News every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
