# APX SmartCapture vs Microsoft Defender

The clearest difference is review sentiment: APX SmartCapture at 100% against Microsoft Defender's 34%. APX SmartCapture also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 3) and iOS requirement (15.5 vs 17.0). Microsoft Defender's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 2.0) and ratings volume (22K vs 6). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Microsoft Defender sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. APX SmartCapture asks for nothing beyond the download.

Microsoft Defender holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Microsoft Defender has 22K ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of APX SmartCapture's written reviews are positive against 34% of Microsoft Defender's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

APX SmartCapture ships an update monthly, Microsoft Defender every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 10, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
