# Tovala vs Wildgrain

The clearest difference is monetization model: Tovala at free with in-app purchases against Wildgrain's subscription. Tovala also leads on ratings volume (12K vs 277) and update cadence (fortnightly vs monthly). Wildgrain's advantage is ads (none vs shown). On price, rating, review sentiment and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Tovala against 4.8 for Wildgrain. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Tovala has 12K ratings behind it against 277, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 44% of Tovala's written reviews are positive against 50% of Wildgrain's.

Tovala ships an update fortnightly, Wildgrain monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
