# CatchACharacter vs Capture The Magic

The clearest difference is rating: CatchACharacter at 4.6 against Capture The Magic's 3.5. CatchACharacter also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 12 months) and ratings volume (1.5K vs 41). Capture The Magic's advantage is review sentiment (59% vs 16%) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CatchACharacter sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and Capture The Magic sells 11 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

CatchACharacter holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: CatchACharacter has 1.5K ratings behind it against 41, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 16% of CatchACharacter's written reviews are positive against 59% of Capture The Magic's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

CatchACharacter ships an update fortnightly, Capture The Magic every 12 months. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
