# PrivateVPN vs Mozilla VPN

The clearest difference is rating: PrivateVPN at 4.6 against Mozilla VPN's 3.4. PrivateVPN also leads on monetization model (freemium vs subscription) and ratings volume (5K vs 494). Mozilla VPN's advantage is review sentiment (40% vs 28%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. PrivateVPN sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and Mozilla VPN sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

PrivateVPN holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: PrivateVPN has 5K ratings behind it against 494, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 28% of PrivateVPN's written reviews are positive against 40% of Mozilla VPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

PrivateVPN ships an update every 2 months, Mozilla VPN monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
