# PrivateVPN vs RYN VPN

The clearest difference is ads: PrivateVPN at none against RYN VPN's shown. PrivateVPN also leads on rating (4.6 vs 4.2) and ratings volume (5K vs 509). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. PrivateVPN sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and RYN VPN sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

PrivateVPN holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: PrivateVPN has 5K ratings behind it against 509, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 29% of PrivateVPN's written reviews are positive against 33% of RYN VPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

PrivateVPN ships an update every 2 months, RYN VPN monthly. Both last shipped on October 26, 2026.
