# Avatar Maker vs Hyper

Avatar Maker and Hyper both sit at 4.5 stars, but that hides the real split: 94% of Avatar Maker's written reviews are positive against 39% of Hyper's. Avatar Maker also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 25) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 16.0). Hyper's advantage is ratings volume (11K vs 47) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, rating, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Hyper sells 25 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Avatar Maker asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for Avatar Maker against 4.6 for Hyper. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hyper has 11K ratings behind it against 47, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 94% of Avatar Maker's written reviews are positive against 39% of Hyper's.

Avatar Maker ships an update every 2 months, Hyper every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
