# Backgammon Match vs FriendGammon

The clearest difference is rating: FriendGammon at 3.8 against Backgammon Match's 3.2. FriendGammon also leads on update cadence (every 6 days vs every 2 weeks) and ratings volume (69 vs 12). Backgammon Match's advantage is iOS requirement (10.0 vs 16.0). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Backgammon Match sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and FriendGammon sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

FriendGammon holds the better App Store score, 3.8 against 3.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: FriendGammon has 69 ratings behind it against 12, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 56% of Backgammon Match's written reviews are positive against 53% of FriendGammon's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Backgammon Match ships an update every 2 weeks, FriendGammon every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
