# REC vs Protake

The clearest difference is rating: Protake at 4.5 against REC's 3.8. Protake also leads on ratings volume (1.4K vs 70) and device support (3 vs 1). REC's advantage is review sentiment (55% vs 41%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. REC sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and Protake sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Protake holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Protake has 1.4K ratings behind it against 70, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 55% of REC's written reviews are positive against 41% of Protake's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

REC ships an update monthly, Protake every 2 months. Both last shipped on October 29, 2026.
