# Carrington vs lluminate

The clearest difference is rating: Carrington at 4.1 against lluminate's 3.5. Carrington also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and update cadence (every 6 days vs every 3 months). lluminate's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (63% vs 54%). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Carrington sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and lluminate sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $11.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Carrington holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Carrington has 217 ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 54% of Carrington's written reviews are positive against 63% of lluminate's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Carrington ships an update every 6 days, lluminate every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
