# Smart PDF Document Scanner vs Scanner Vault

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Smart PDF Document Scanner at none against Scanner Vault's 3. Scanner Vault's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 6 months). On price, review sentiment and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Scanner Vault sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $29.99 per year. Smart PDF Document Scanner asks for nothing beyond the download.

Scanner Vault holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Scanner Vault has 15K ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Smart PDF Document Scanner's written reviews are positive against 94% of Scanner Vault's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Smart PDF Document Scanner ships an update every 6 months, Scanner Vault fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
