# Chess vs Chess Move

Chess and Chess Move both sit at 4.5 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Chess's written reviews are positive against 27% of Chess Move's. Chess also leads on iOS requirement (8.0 vs 13.0). Chess Move's advantage is ratings volume (1.1K vs 11) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 6 weeks). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chess sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Chess Move sells 17 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Chess holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess Move has 1.1K ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 100% of Chess's written reviews are positive against 27% of Chess Move's.

Chess ships an update every 6 weeks, Chess Move every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
