# Ciphers vs CryptoFiles

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Ciphers at none against CryptoFiles's 3. Ciphers also leads on ratings volume (6 vs 1) and iOS requirement (8.2 vs 13.0). CryptoFiles's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 11 months) and rating (5.0 vs 4.8). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CryptoFiles sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Ciphers asks for nothing beyond the download.

CryptoFiles holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ciphers has 6 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Ciphers ships an update every 11 months, CryptoFiles fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
