# Food Basics vs Hall Construction

The clearest difference is rating: Hall Construction at 5.0 against Food Basics's 3.8. Hall Construction also leads on monetization model (free vs ad-supported) and iOS requirement (12.4 vs 15.0). Food Basics's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 9 months) and ratings volume (10 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Hall Construction holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Food Basics has 10 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Food Basics ships an update monthly, Hall Construction every 9 months. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
