# Food Basics vs Malabas

The clearest difference is rating: Malabas at 5.0 against Food Basics's 3.8. Malabas also leads on update cadence (every 10 days vs monthly) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). Food Basics's advantage is ratings volume (10 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Malabas holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Food Basics has 10 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Food Basics ships an update monthly, Malabas every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
