# QR Scanner vs QR Code

QR Scanner and QR Code both sit at 4.5 stars, but that hides the real split: 82% of QR Scanner's written reviews are positive against 33% of QR Code's. QR Code's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 9 days vs every 2 months). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. QR Scanner sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and QR Code sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for QR Scanner against 4.5 for QR Code. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: QR Code has 13K ratings behind it against 21, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 82% of QR Scanner's written reviews are positive against 33% of QR Code's.

QR Scanner ships an update every 2 months, QR Code every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
