# Notepad vs Writer

The clearest difference is ads: Writer at none against Notepad's shown. Notepad's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs paid). On price, rating, review sentiment and ratings volume there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Notepad sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Writer sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Notepad against 5.0 for Writer. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 3 and 2 respectively. Written reviews are what separate them: 54% of Notepad's written reviews are positive against 50% of Writer's.

Notepad ships an update every 4 days, Writer every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
