# OONI Probe vs Swisscows Email

The clearest difference is rating: OONI Probe at 4.5 against Swisscows Email's 3.0. OONI Probe also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 6) and ratings volume (91 vs 4). Swisscows Email's advantage is review sentiment (75% vs 58%) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Swisscows Email sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. OONI Probe asks for nothing beyond the download.

OONI Probe holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: OONI Probe has 91 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 58% of OONI Probe's written reviews are positive against 75% of Swisscows Email's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

OONI Probe ships an update every 2 months, Swisscows Email every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
