# Zulip vs Trial Connection

The clearest difference is rating: Trial Connection at 5.0 against Zulip's 3.7. Trial Connection also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Zulip's advantage is ratings volume (16 vs 2) and update cadence (monthly vs every 2 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Trial Connection holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Zulip has 16 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Zulip ships an update monthly, Trial Connection every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
