# ResearchGate vs WeLibrary

ResearchGate and WeLibrary both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of WeLibrary's written reviews are positive against 46% of ResearchGate's. WeLibrary also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). ResearchGate's advantage is ratings volume (15K vs 7) and update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 4 months). On price, rating and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

WeLibrary holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ResearchGate has 15K ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 46% of ResearchGate's written reviews are positive against 100% of WeLibrary's.

ResearchGate ships an update every 5 weeks, WeLibrary every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
