# ResearchGate vs Coltie App

The clearest difference is ads: Coltie App at none against ResearchGate's shown. Coltie App also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 5 weeks). ResearchGate's advantage is ratings volume (15K vs 6). On price, rating, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Coltie App holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ResearchGate has 15K ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two.

ResearchGate ships an update every 5 weeks, Coltie App every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
