# ResearchGate vs ScoutPass

The clearest difference is rating: ResearchGate at 4.8 against ScoutPass's 3.4. ResearchGate also leads on ratings volume (15K vs 5). ScoutPass's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ResearchGate holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ResearchGate has 15K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 46% of ResearchGate's written reviews are positive against 50% of ScoutPass's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

ResearchGate ships an update every 5 weeks, ScoutPass weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 9, 2026 respectively.
