# Chess ⁺ vs Steinitz

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Chess ⁺ at 2.9K against Steinitz's 15. Chess ⁺ also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 4 months). Steinitz's advantage is iOS requirement (8.0 vs 11.0). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chess ⁺ sells 7 one-off in-app purchases and Steinitz sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Steinitz holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess ⁺ has 2.9K ratings behind it against 15, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Chess ⁺ ships an update every 2 months, Steinitz every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
