# Social Steps vs Play Steps

The clearest difference is rating: Social Steps at 4.7 against Play Steps's 3.8. Social Steps also leads on ratings volume (5.2K vs 5). Play Steps's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 62%) and in-app purchases (none vs 3). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Social Steps sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Play Steps asks for nothing beyond the download.

Social Steps holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Social Steps has 5.2K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 62% of Social Steps's written reviews are positive against 100% of Play Steps's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Social Steps ships an update weekly, Play Steps every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
