# Shiliew vs RedgateVPN

The clearest difference is rating: RedgateVPN at 5.0 against Shiliew's 4.1. RedgateVPN also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and update cadence (every 9 days vs every 2 months). Shiliew's advantage is ratings volume (26 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Shiliew sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $14.99 per month and RedgateVPN sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

RedgateVPN holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Shiliew has 26 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 88% of Shiliew's written reviews are positive against 100% of RedgateVPN's.

Shiliew ships an update every 2 months, RedgateVPN every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
