# Bolt IoT vs ESET VPN

The clearest difference is rating: ESET VPN at 4.3 against Bolt IoT's 2.8. ESET VPN also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (570 vs 4). Bolt IoT's advantage is monetization model (ad-supported vs subscription) and update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ESET VPN holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 2.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ESET VPN has 570 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 43% of Bolt IoT's written reviews are positive against 45% of ESET VPN's.

Bolt IoT ships an update every 5 weeks, ESET VPN every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
