# Joy Chinese vs Deereader

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Joy Chinese at 100% against Deereader's 27%. Joy Chinese also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 12) and ads (none vs shown). Deereader's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (626 vs 1). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Deereader sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $4.49 per 7 days. Joy Chinese asks for nothing beyond the download.

Deereader holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Deereader has 626 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Joy Chinese's written reviews are positive against 27% of Deereader's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Joy Chinese ships an update every 8 months, Deereader every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 18, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
