# Ulysses vs Binder

The clearest difference is rating: Ulysses at 4.6 against Binder's 3.3. Ulysses also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (2.2K vs 3). Binder's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 3 weeks). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Ulysses sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month and Binder sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Ulysses holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ulysses has 2.2K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 67% of Ulysses's written reviews are positive against 50% of Binder's.

Ulysses ships an update every 3 weeks, Binder every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on November 8, 2026 and November 5, 2026 respectively.
