# Second Line Calling/Texting vs Receive SMS

The clearest difference is ads: Second Line Calling/Texting at none against Receive SMS's shown. Second Line Calling/Texting also leads on review sentiment (68% vs 40%). Receive SMS's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months) and rating (4.4 vs 4.2). On price, ratings volume, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Second Line Calling/Texting sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and Receive SMS sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Receive SMS holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.2. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 2K and 1.1K respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 68% of Second Line Calling/Texting's written reviews are positive against 40% of Receive SMS's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Second Line Calling/Texting ships an update every 2 months, Receive SMS every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 30, 2026 and September 29, 2026 respectively.
